Become a Mentor Today!

Be A Mentor, in collaboration and partnership with Richmond Police Activities League (RPAL), is working to expand its supportive mentoring program to a growing number of youth ages 10 - 17 impacted by violence in an area of the community where there are fewer resources and supports available. Our mentoring program aims to prevent youth from becoming involved in the juvenile justice system or re-entering the system.

Mentors partner with mentees to form personal relationships to build resilience, academic engagement, and a support network. Mentors focus on goal setting, homework help, and career exploration. Mentors are trusted, caring community volunteers who are vetted, trained, and interviewed by a mentoring project coordinator to be matched to a mentee. As a Mentor, you are a committed adult in the life of your mentee, meeting them where they are. Mentors must be age 21 or older, pass a background check, attend mentor training, live in or near Richmond, California, commit to 1.5 hours per week for one year, and be excited and present with our Richmond youth.
